Welcome to the first edition of the Love Connection. This is your girl Love Barnett hitting you up with the latest 411 in the entertainment world; as well as keeping you informed of the hottest cars on the streets and in the making. I just wanted to give you a quickie on what happened toward the end of 2005, and what we can look forward to in the beginning of 2006.
In May ‘05 Foxy Brown’s life changed when she became completely deaf in both ears. It’s an uncommon and severe condition, but there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Foxy will under go surgery this year, which has been successful in the past. Our prayers go out to you Fox Boogie. As for now Foxy’s upcoming album is still due out in 2006.
Most unfortunately, we lost the greatest comedian/actor of our lifetime. Richard Pryor passed away Dec.11, 2005 of a heart attack at the age of 65. He will truly be missed, but his legacy will live on. Also the singer Betty Wright famous for the 70s hit “Tonight is the Night”; son was shot and killed Christmas Eve. On Dec. 31, 2005, rapper Obie Trice was shot in the head in his hometown of Detroit, out of road rage. He is fine and making a speedy recovery. Reportedly the bullet is still lounged in his head. There has been no arrest for his shooter.
The end of ‘05 wasn’t just filled with tragedy one of the most prolific moments in Hip Hop happened; and no one ever saw it coming. The union between the greatest rappers in the 21st century, Jay Z and Nas, extinguished their long time beef and united on stage in New York. So, will the ‘06 bring these two, to do an album together; or is Nas signing with Def Jam? Only time will tell, but I know I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what this union will bring us. Another huge moment for Hip Hop is rapper/actress Queen Latifah received a star on the Walk on Fame in Hollywood on Jan 4, 2006.
Rumor has it that rapper Common and actress Taraji Henson, who starred in Common’s video “Testify”; have been seen together a lot lately. Hmmmm, is there LOVE in the air for these two? I don’t know, but they have been working with each other a lot lately. Not only did they work on Common’s video together, but they are also doing a movie together. Yes, Common is going to be on the big screen. He canceled the “Touch the Sky” tour with Kanye West to do the film, so I expect big things in the New Year for Common. Someone else has been spotted hanging out together lately, actress Meagan Goode has been seen with Gabrielle Union’s newly ex husband, former football player, Chris Howard. I don’t think they’re doing a movie together.
That was your quickie on what happened and what’s happening in entertainment.
